“Itwouldbethoughtahardgovernmentthatshouldtaxitseoleone-tenthartoftheirtime，tobeemloyedinitsservice。Butidlenesstaxesmanyofusmuchmore，ifwereckonallthatissentinabsolutesloth，ordoingofnothing，withthatwhichissentinidleemloyments，oramusements，thatamounttonothing。Sloth，bybringingondiseases，absolutelyshortenslife。Sloth，likerust，consumesfasterthanlaborwears；whiletheusedkeyisalwaysbright，asPoorRichardsays。Butdostthoulovelife，thendonotsquandertime，forthat’sthestufflifeismadeof，asPoorRichardsays。Howmuchmorethanisnecessarydowesendinslee，forgettingthatthesleeingfoxcatchesnooultryandthattherewillbesleeingenoughinthegrave，asPoorRichardsays。”
